This morning’s breakfast hosted by the Homes for Heroes Foundation at the London Club provided a meaningful reminder on an important initiative coming into the city of London, the London Veteran’s Village. This project is part of a national effort to provide transitional housing and support services to Canadian veterans experiencing homelessness.
The Homes for Heroes Foundation combines private tiny homes with access to wraparound support, those being mental health services, job training, and peer mentoring. It’s designed with a purpose to build up the veteran’s village environment to successfully transition veterans back into civilian life.
As this foundation moves into London, they have built a local Steering Committee for leading the planning efforts towards the project. Made up of local representatives from government, business and community organizations, the committee members play a key role in bringing partners together, shaping local engagement and ensuring the project reflects the needs of the London region. The committee members are, Retired Lieutenant General Peter Devlin, fifth President of Fanshawe College and is the Chair of this Steering Committee, along with Amy Green, Mark Thomas, Pat O’Hagan and Kirsten Krose.
This initiative highlights the importance of local involvement. Businesses and organizations across London and Middlesex County have a meaningful opportunity to support a project that will deliver lasting benefits to the community. Whether it’s through financial contributions, volunteering, raising awareness or facilitating connections for the foundation, local support will be essential to the project’s success. Like many other organizations, Homes for Heroes relies on community engagement to support those who have served our country and now need our help in return. Your help could make a life changing difference.
